Education and Awareness

The trafficking industry thrives on ignorance and preys upon the uneducated.  Traffickers know the regions of Nepal where the most innocent, naive, and poor girls live, and from among these groups they choose their victims.  Despite the efforts of many non-governmental organizations, there remains many in Nepal and other similar developing countries who have yet to learn about the great injustice of sex trafficking, and thus remain at risk for becoming among those deceived and enslaved.

THI works through our local subcommittees at border crossing site along the Nepal/India border, where we focus our awareness and education efforts, sharing the truth about trafficking among a population most able to intervene.  Utilizing newspaper, radio, posters, and billboards, THI aims to empower Nepalis to affect change and join the fight against trafficking.

In many locations THI has formed relationships with local rickshaw drivers, shop-owners, and others working along the border who provide our staff with important information about trafficking-related activities.
