Dahka Rescue Home

Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh
House Parents: Shamol and Bharoti
Year opened: 2010
Target group: Girls who live on the streets and at high risk for sexual exploitation
Dhaka Rescue Home became part of the ministries of Tiny Hands late in 2009. The home started with two little girls that were rescued off the streets in Dhaka. This home was opened to specifically target little girls who were living on the streets of Dhaka and are at risk for either being trafficked or becoming prostitutes like their mothers.
This home has been designed to serve as a place of refuge for little girls who have been subjected to abuse and neglect. For those that choose to stay at the Dhaka Rescue Home, they are given the opportunity for education, counseling, and guidance. Most kids who have grown up on the streets have little formal education, much of the training is informal and has the goal of preparing the kids to enter school at whatever level is appropriate. Many of the girls at Dhaka Rescue Home have never known a true family and have never faced discipline or structure, so implementing these ideals into their daily life is of the utmost importance.
The girls who are a part of this home are extremely happy, vibrant and full of joy. They are being exposed to God’s Word and the gospel of Jesus Christ. They enjoy singing, dancing and playing musical instruments as part of their daily devotional times. Most of these little girls, for the first time, now have parents who love them and who are able to provide them with emotional, physical and spiritual reference points in their young lives.
